Priyam Pradhan’s ‘Rasa Lila’ exhibition at the Nepal Art Council
Kathmandu: Priyam Pradhan’s ‘Rasa Lila’ has opened at the Nepal Art Council. The exhibition, featuring works by artists Binit Maharjan, Shristika Yonzon, Shubi Lama, Utsab B.S. Pradhan, Julian Shakya, Smarika Phuyal, and Urza Acharya, runs from July 20 to August 3, 2024.
Exhibition Blurb:
‘Rasa Lila: The Divine Dance’ features contemporary narratives on Vedic texts: namely the Bhagavad Purana (and the poem ‘Rasa Lila’) and the Mahabharata, moving beyond a theistic lens to showcase selected stories that connect the ancient text with modern life.
The main idea behind the exhibition is to use stories and texts from Hindu philosophy to create a body of work which—through symbols and mediums—invites viewers to re-orient themselves with lores from their childhood and become inspired to apply their essence to our lives.
Curatorial Vision:
The artworks and installations are intended to prompt visitors to reflect on the past, re-orient themselves with stories like the Rasa Lila and the Mahabharata, and derive personal, contemporary meanings from these ancient texts. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the exhibition, observe the different symbols and metaphors, and internalize the essence of these familiar stories. Through this interactive experience, the audience is invited to explore the significance of these narratives within their own lives.
