Rato Machindranath Jatra: Chariot procession today
Lalitpur: The Rato Machindranath Jatra, a significant cultural and religious event in Nepal, will be pulled today. Honoring the god of rain and good harvests, this festival is recognized as the country’s longest chariot festival, lasting three to four months.
The festival features the procession of the scarlet-colored deity, Rato Machhindranath, through various parts of the city. The chariot will be pulled from Thatitole to Jawalakhel Chowk today.
Adding to the festivities, the ‘Bhoto Jatra’ will occur on August 4 at Jawalakhel Chowk. This traditional event showcases the ornate vest, or ‘bhoto,’ and is a festival highlight.
The Rato Machindranath Jatra not only celebrates the deity but also brings together communities, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. Participants and spectators alike are expected to fill the streets, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the festival.
