Extremely heavy rainfall expected in parts of Nepal
The Department of Water and Meteorology has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
The weather forecasting agency predicts extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces this afternoon. Heavy rainfall is expected across most of the country, with light to moderate showers and thunderstorms in many areas.
The rainfall is expected to intensify overnight, with very heavy rainfall predicted in isolated locations of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces. Heavy rainfall is likely across the entire country.
The department has defined extremely heavy rainfall as more than 200 millimeters of rain within 24 hours, while heavy rainfall is between 100 and 200 millimeters. Such intense rainfall can pose significant risks.
The weather agency has warned of potential floods and landslides in areas experiencing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. People living in these regions are advised to remain alert.
The monsoon has moved closer to Nepal and is expected to remain active until Wednesday, according to the department.
