The Vibez Band releases Nepal’s first AI-generated music video
Kathmandu: The Vibez Band has released Nepal’s first music video created using artificial intelligence (AI). The Nepali-American band, renowned in both Nepal and the United States, premiered the AI-generated video for their hit song “Thaki saken” on national television this Sunday.
The AI-generated music video marks a historic moment in Nepal’s television history, blending innovative technology with artistic expression. The video portrays captivating scenes of love and separation through AI-generated characters and landscapes. These meticulously crafted elements make it challenging to distinguish between the real and the artificial.
Utilizing advanced software such as MidJourney, RunwayML, LumaAI, KingAI, and Topaz VideoAI, the video showcases a range of indoor and outdoor scenes. From coffee shops to panoramic villages, bustling cities, driving sequences, temples, and even blazing fires, the AI’s creative touch is evident throughout. Despite their artificial origins, the characters and scenes possess a lifelike quality that captivates viewers.
AI was responsible for the direction, editing, and color grading of the video, while Ajay Bhattarai contributed to the screenplay. The song’s lyrics were penned by Vivek Pokhrel, and it features the flute of Grammy-nominated artist Manoj Singh. Saswat Shrestha managed the mixing and production, adding to the video’s professional polish.
The Vibez Band, known for their musical experimentation, first released “Thakisake” on their 2008 Vibez Generation album. They have now reimagined it for the AI generation, pushing the boundaries of music and technology. The original video, filmed at various locations in California, was one of Nepal’s most expensive music videos at $10,000. Directed and shot by Shailendra D. Karki, it earned the band the Best Band of the Year award at the 2009 Image Awards and Hits FM Awards.
The band continues to captivate audiences with popular tracks like “Nirmohi,” “Tashveer Timro,” and “Kathmandu City.” The current lineup features vocalist Pravin Singh, Direk Lal Shrestha on drums, Rupak Lama on guitar, and Manoj Singh on flute.
