Jumla celebrated Sano Paltan Jatra
Residents of Jumla celebrated the vibrant Sano Paltan Jatra on Thursday, August 22, at Khalanga, the district headquarter. The festival, held on the third day of Gaijatra, featured satirical performances, the iconic ‘Meem Wassa’ procession mocking fashion trends, and a lively cultural showcase.
The organizing committee revealed that Jumla has been observing this unique tradition since 1953. The Jatra drew a significant crowd who were captivated by the humorous and satirical performances.
The cultural highlights of the event included the energetic Panchebaja (a combination of five traditional musical instruments) and two traditional dances: the Narad Rishi Naach and the Bhote Naach.
The ‘Meem Wassa’ procession, a satirical parade mocking fashion trends, was a particular highlight. Participants dressed in exaggerated and often humorous costumes, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
Sano Paltan Jatra is a testament to Jumla’s rich cultural heritage and the enduring spirit of satire and humor. The festival serves as a platform for local residents to express themselves creatively and celebrate their community.
