British Council launches Climate Futures Program to support Nepal’s creative industries
The British Council has launched its “Climate Futures: South Asia” program, aimed at empowering Nepal’s creative industries to address the climate crisis. The initiative, which is now open for applications, offers grants to artists and cultural organizations to develop innovative projects and implement sustainable practices that tackle climate change, according to a statement issued by the British Council.
The program will provide grants of up to £15,000 (around Rs 26.25 million) for projects that promote climate awareness and sustainability within the arts sector. It will support artist-led initiatives focused on encouraging sustainable practices and sharing knowledge within the cultural industry.
Additionally, the program seeks to aid the development of sustainability strategies for organizations, with a focus on capacity-building and infrastructure improvements to enhance climate change awareness and sustainable approaches, the statement added.
Applications must be submitted by November 25, 2024, at 23:59 GMT. The British Council noted that selected applicants will receive financial support and expert mentorship from UK specialists in climate and the arts, helping them make a significant contribution to global climate discussions.
To assist potential applicants, the British Council will host two online information sessions on October 8 and 22 at 10:00 GMT. These sessions aim to guide participants through the application process and offer tips on securing funding.
The Climate Futures program aims to empower Nepal’s artistic and cultural community by merging creativity with sustainability, driving meaningful change in the fight against climate change.
