AI Journalism Workshop to equip Nepali Journalists with AI Skills, focus on fighting Misinformation
Kathmandu: The Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) and the Female Economic Journalist Association (FEJA) are jointly organizing an “AI in Journalism Workshop” on July 26, 2026 (Shrawan 10, 2083) to promote the effective use of artificial intelligence in newsrooms and strengthen efforts to combat misinformation, disinformation, and fake news.

The two-hour workshop, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., aims to equip journalists, content creators, digital marketers, and media professionals with practical AI skills for modern newsroom operations.The initiative was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by CAN Federation Acting President Chiranjibi Adhikari, FEJA President Sharmila Thakuri, Sunway College Kathmandu representative Simoli Desai, and Tech Bloggers Association of Nepal (TBAN) President Santosh Dhungana. The workshop was conceptualized by Adhikari, who is also the Founding CEO of One Cover Private Limited.
Speaking about the collaboration, Adhikari said AI has become an essential tool for today’s newsrooms and that the partnership seeks to help journalists responsibly use AI to improve reporting, detect financial and data-related fraud, and curb the spread of misinformation and fake news.
FEJON President Sharmila Thakuri said the workshop would be particularly beneficial for women journalists, emphasizing that technological literacy has become increasingly important in the digital era.The technical sessions will be led by Ritesh Ghimire, Founder and Mentor of TBAN and Chief Technology Officer of Kantipur Neo, the technology arm of Kantipur Media Group. Ghimire, who has more than a decade of experience in media technology, specializes in AI-powered newsroom solutions, digital publishing platforms, and content delivery systems.
Joining him as co-trainer will be Prabigya Acharya, AI Research Coordinator at Sunway College Kathmandu, who will provide insights into AI research and its practical applications in journalism.

The workshop curriculum includes AI fundamentals for media, AI-assisted news gathering, automated content creation, editorial productivity tools, AI-powered audience engagement strategies, newsroom AI product development, and hands-on training in AI-assisted video editing.Organizers say the workshop is expected to strengthen the digital capabilities of Nepal’s media sector while promoting ethical, credible, and technology-driven journalism.
