Art and photography copyright issues discussed
On Friday, an interaction program on copyright issues of art and photography was discussed in the capital. The National Forum of Photo Journalists (NFPJ) and Nepal Academy of Fine Arts organized the event to address methods to secure copyright for artists and photojournalists.
The event, chaired by Saurganga Darshandhari, head of the Multi-Dimensional and Creative Arts Department at Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, included insights from various stakeholders. Lal Kaji Lama, Vice Chancellor of the Academy, shared that suggestions would be submitted to the Copyright Registrar’s Office of Nepal to consolidate copyright-related concerns.
Royal Acharya, President of the Associate Provincial Committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), committed to supporting the drafting of copyright laws from the federation’s side. Similarly, Devendra Kumar Kafle, Member Secretary of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, emphasized collaboration with photography-related organizations to aid the legal framework.
Salikram Khatri, a Copyright Registrar’s Office representative, expressed satisfaction that the discussion extended beyond music to include photography and art.
Pradeep Raj Onta, President of the National Forum of Photo Journalists (NFPJ), highlighted issues of unauthorized usage of photographs and artworks, particularly with the rise of digital media. He emphasized the importance of raising voices against these problems, which was the primary goal of the discussion program.
The event provided a platform for stakeholders to share ideas on protecting creative works and advocating for comprehensive copyright legislation.
