Blending traditions, spreading festive cheer: The Annual Cake Mixing Ceremony at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel
The Kathmandu Marriott Hotel, in collaboration with Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu, hosted its annual Cake Mixing Ceremony, marking a 50-day countdown to the New Year. This festive tradition, rooted in 17th-century Europe, celebrates the Christmas season with families coming together to prepare the ingredients for their Christmas cakes in advance.
At Kathmandu Marriott, the cake mixing included almonds, cashews, raisins, dates, figs, dried cherries, pistachios, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, dried ginger, candied fruits, walnuts, and all-purpose flour mixed in the right ratio. This mixture was soaked in rum, brandy, wine, and a combination of fruit juices and alcohol. The cake mix will be filled in airtight containers and soaked for 2-5 weeks.
Vishal Mehra, the Cluster General Manager of Kathmandu Marriott, emphasized the event’s focus on community, sustainability, and holiday flavors. Dignitaries, ambassadors, corporate leaders, hotel chefs, hotel employees, and media participated in the ceremony, preparing mixtures for cakes which will be used to create the hotel’s signature Christmas desserts.
These cakes, along with cookies, pastries, and muffins, will be prepared for guests and children across Kathmandu Valley during the Thanksgiving, Tree Lighting Ceremony, and signature Advent Calendar celebration from December 1st to 25th, inviting children from Baby Life Home, Blind Children Educational Center, Mendies Haven and many more.
