KATHMANDU: The China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) has shifted its immediate focus to emergency relief in Rasuwa, where recent flash floods have affected families and disrupted local communities.
In coordination with government authorities, UN agencies, local partners and community stakeholders, CFRD is preparing relief assistance that includes 14 tents, 500 food packages, 500 family kits and 5,000 solar lamps. The support is intended to meet urgent household needs while also helping children continue their education during the disruption.
The response follows CFRD’s broader development work in Nepal, where the organisation has been supporting rural livelihoods, agricultural skills and community resilience. In Dakshinkali, CFRD recently worked with New Light Foundation and the local municipality on a 390-hour CTEVT-affiliated agricultural skills programme for 60 farmers and aspiring agricultural entrepreneurs.
That programme covered vegetable production, nursery management, soil preparation, pest and disease control, harvesting, post-harvest handling and basic agricultural marketing. Participants also received farming materials such as water tanks, pumps and irrigation pipes to help apply their skills in commercial agriculture.
With the Rasuwa emergency, CFRD is now combining its long-term development work with rapid humanitarian assistance, reflecting a broader commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during both everyday livelihood challenges and sudden disasters.
