China Higher Education exhibition drew a large crowd in Kathmandu
A one-day Chinese educational exhibition was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Boudha. The Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council, in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and the Chinese Scholarship Council, organized this exhibition to inform Nepali students and parents about the high-level educational opportunities in China.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song jointly inaugurated the exhibition. The exhibition, with free entry, provided students and parents the opportunity to get necessary advice on higher education available in China. Currently, 500,000 students from 160 countries are studying various subjects in China.
Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the chief guest, stated that educational exchanges broaden and deepen people-to-people relationships and ultimately strengthen bilateral relations. He mentioned, “We want to learn from China’s charismatic development. Education is one of the areas where Nepal can benefit from China’s vast knowledge and technological development. Since education shapes human capital, it can be seen as a key to development and prosperity, and today’s educational cooperation will bear fruit in the future.”
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, His Excellency Chen Song highlighted that contemporary contributions to China-Nepal educational cooperation will be a significant achievement for the future. He shared that the scope of higher education in China has been expanding since reform and opening up, achieving remarkable success in the quality of Chinese education.
In the same way, Dr. Harish Chandra Shah, the Chairperson of the Nepal-China Cultural and Educational Council, expressed his faith that the educational fair would facilitate friendly and smooth educational relations between the two nations.
The exhibition featured 31 general and world-renowned universities and colleges offering courses in engineering, medicine, language, culture, commerce, science and technology, aviation, sports, agriculture, and pharmacy. Each stall at the exhibition provided detailed information on the benefits of studying in China, available scholarships, educational environment, food, and social environment to Nepali students and their parents.
Each year, the Chinese government provides over 200 scholarships to the Nepal government in various subjects. Recently, the number of Nepali students going to China for self-financed studies, in addition to scholarships, has been increasing. Students who have completed their studies in China are making significant contributions in Nepal as experts, scholars, businesspeople, and high-ranking government officials in various economic and social fields.
The first Chinese educational exhibition was organized in 2003, and since then, it has been held annually. It is believed that such educational exhibitions not only inform Nepali students about Chinese education but also strengthen our friendly relations in the future.
The exhibition was attended by Dr. Deepak Kafle, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology; Lilamani Paudel, Former Ambassador; senior personalities, and students from various schools. Over 300 visitors visited the university stalls at the exhibition.
