LUMBINI: Educational and social institutions in Lumbini have received a donation of Chinese books worth approximately NPR 250,000 to commemorate the 71st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, reinforcing cultural exchange and academic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The books were donated by Fu Qiang, a Chinese citizen living in Nepal, together with a group of Chinese supporters. Imported from China, the collection was distributed to the Nepal-China Friendship Association Lumbini Library, the Faculty of Medicine at Lumbini Buddhist University, Himalaya Book Store, and the Jeevaraj Ashrit Foundation.
Fu Qiang, who was recently appointed as the Ambassador for International Education and Cultural Exchange at Lumbini Buddhist University, said the initiative was launched to strengthen people-to-people ties and promote greater educational and cultural collaboration between Nepal and China.
Most of the donated books are written in English and cover topics such as Chinese history, culture, society, development, and contemporary affairs. The collection also includes introductory Chinese language books for students and readers interested in learning Mandarin.
Dr. Sagar, Head of the Faculty of Medicine at Lumbini Buddhist University, said the books on traditional Chinese medicine would support students and researchers while opening new opportunities for academic collaboration between Nepal and China in the field of healthcare.
The book handover was held alongside a special programme organised by the Nepal-China Friendship Association, Lumbini, to celebrate the 71st anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Speaking at the event, Manish Kumar Joshi, President of the Nepal-China Friendship Association, Lumbini, expressed hope that more Chinese tourists, scholars, and investors would visit Lumbini in the coming years. He said stronger people-to-people exchanges and educational cooperation would further deepen the long-standing friendship and cultural ties between Nepal and China.
The donation campaign was supported by several Chinese volunteers, including Sun Mingqiang, Song Xiangmin, Zhu Hongxin, Sun Siyun, Liang Mingzhe, Lü Xinyuan, Wang Zezhen, Ye Zhenyu, Hu Bo, and Li Lili, along with the Tank Road Book Club and other supporting organisations.
Organisers said the initiative aims to strengthen educational cooperation, cultural understanding, and mutual friendship, highlighting the important role of books and knowledge exchange in fostering closer Nepal-China relations.
