Several passengers began queuing outside ticket counters late Thursday night in an effort to secure seats for their journeys. The early rush reflects the demand for travel tickets ahead of Dashain, one of Nepal’s major festivals, when many people leave the capital to celebrate with their families.
Pankaj Malla, general manager of Lhotse Multipurpose Pvt. Ltd., which operates the New Bus Park, said passengers travelling to districts in Sudurpashchim Province had started lining up as early as 9 pm on Thursday.
A meeting held on Tuesday, October 6, involving the Department of Transport Management, Nepal Police, transport entrepreneurs and transport workers had decided to open advance ticket bookings for Dashain from October 9.
To manage the expected rush, Lhotse Multipurpose has added 15 ticket counters in the New Bus Park area. The company has also made necessary security arrangements to facilitate ticket sales and help manage the growing number of passengers.
With advance booking now underway, passengers are heading to ticket counters to secure seats for their festival journeys. The additional counters and security arrangements are intended to help manage the crowds as demand for Dashain travel tickets increases.
