Kathmandu – South African cricket star David Miller arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday, November 4, to represent Karnali Yaks in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The 37-year-old left-handed batter landed at Tribhuvan International Airport, where representatives of Karnali Yaks Sports Pvt. Ltd. welcomed him.
Miller, known for his powerful middle-order batting and match-winning performances, is expected to make his NPL debut against Sudurpaschim Royals on Friday, November 6.
His arrival is expected to strengthen Karnali Yaks as the franchise looks to build on its promising start to the tournament. The team has won two of its first three matches.
Karnali defeated Janakpur Bolts by 19 runs in its opening match and secured a four-wicket victory over Biratnagar Kings in its second game. However, the team suffered a four-wicket defeat against Kathmandu Gorkhas in its third match.
Miller brings extensive international and franchise cricket experience to the squad. He has played in major T20 competitions, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia’s Big Bash League and the Pakistan Super League.
In the IPL, he has represented teams including Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals. He played an important role in Gujarat Titans’ maiden IPL title victory in 2022.
The experienced batter has scored 2,804 runs in 140 T20 internationals for South Africa, including two centuries and nine half-centuries. Across 584 T20 matches, he has accumulated 12,435 runs, including four centuries and 53 half-centuries.
One of his most memorable performances came in 2017, when he scored a century off just 35 balls against Bangladesh in a T20 international.
Karnali Yaks chairman Grihendra Ghimire said Miller’s participation would not only strengthen the team’s batting lineup but also help promote Nepal’s tourism through international exposure.
Miller joins a Karnali squad featuring Nepali players Sompal Kami, Gulshan Jha and Nandan Yadav, alongside other international signings.
His participation adds further international attention to the third edition of the NPL, which began on October 26 at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
