Kanchanpur — A section of the Dodhara-Chandani Suspension Bridge over the Mahakali River has collapsed, disrupting movement along the important route connecting Dodhara-Chandani with the Bhimdatta area.
The damage occurred near one of the bridge’s pillars on Wednesday morning, causing a part of the structure to fall into the river. Following the incident, authorities have completely stopped movement across the bridge for safety reasons.
Spanning 1,452.96 metres, the suspension bridge is an important local transportation link and is also a popular attraction for visitors. The bridge is widely recognised as one of the longest suspension bridges in Asia.
Authorities are assessing the damage and working on further measures to restore safe movement across the bridge.
