Floodwaters released after a large lake near the confluence of China’s Chochen River and Purepu Tsangpo River overflowed have reached Syafrubesi in Rasuwa district.
According to Nepal’s Flood Forecasting Division, the increased flow in the Bhotekoshi River reached Syafrubesi at approximately 12:31 pm.
Chinese authorities had earlier informed Nepal that they were continuously monitoring the lake. Although the water level and size of the lake were increasing due to continuous overflow, they assessed the risk of a major sudden outburst as relatively low.
The Chinese side also reported that ice and rocks had previously fallen downstream of the lake. Authorities said they would continue monitoring the situation and share further information with Nepal as it becomes available.
Despite the assessment, Nepali authorities have urged residents along the Trishuli River, from Rasuwa to Muglin, to remain on high alert and stay in safe locations until further notice.
