Kathmandu— Devotees gathered at Ganesh temples across country on Tuesday to mark Ganesh Chaturthi, celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, the Hindu deity associated with wisdom, prosperity and the removal of obstacles.
Devotees offered prayers, flowers, fruits and traditional offerings at temples, while observing rituals dedicated to Ganesha.
Among the Newar community, the festival is observed as Chatha, featuring distinctive local traditions. Families prepare offerings from various grains, fruits and other traditional food items and offer them during worship. The moon is also worshipped as part of the Chatha ritual.
The celebration reflects the Kathmandu Valley’s rich cultural diversity, bringing together religious devotion, traditional food offerings and centuries-old Newar customs.
