Lalitpur — The 19th Godawari Flower Competition and Exhibition has opened at the Jawalakhel Football Ground in Lalitpur, bringing hundreds of varieties of flowers and plants together ahead of the Tihar and Chhath festivals.
Organised by the Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN), the five-day exhibition is being held from October 29 to November 2 (Kartik 12–16). The event aims to promote commercial flower production and strengthen Nepal’s floriculture industry.
The exhibition features 86 stalls, including commercial stalls, competition sections, a plant clinic and other visitor facilities. More than 450 varieties of flowers and plants are being displayed and offered for sale.
Visitors can see different varieties of Godawari, marigold, globe amaranth and other seasonal flowers, as well as ornamental plants suitable for homes and gardens.
A competition is being held among nurseries and flower farms in five Godawari categories: Miniature, Spider, Reflex, Incurve and Cut Flower. This year, an Outstanding Floral Arrangement category has also been introduced under cut flowers.
The exhibition also features a plant clinic, where visitors can receive information and technical guidance on plant diseases, pests and proper plant care.
Organisers expect the five-day event to attract more than 39,000 visitors and generate over Rs. 13 million in business transactions. The exhibition is being held during a period of increased demand for flowers for Tihar and Chhath celebrations.
According to the Floriculture Association Nepal, commercial flower cultivation currently covers more than 325 hectares across the country, while total investment in the floriculture sector is estimated at more than Rs. 11.5 billion.
The exhibition will continue at Jawalakhel Football Ground through November 2, providing visitors an opportunity to explore flower displays, purchase flowers and plants, and learn more about Nepal’s growing floriculture sector.
