Golbazar’s Grief Is Nepal’s Grief: Let Justice Bring Us Together, Not Divide Us

Kathmandu-The smoke that rose over Golbazar on Thursday was more than the result of burning motorcycles. It carried the pain of grieving families, the fear of ordinary citizens, and a question that every Nepali should be asking: How did a protest demanding justice descend into violence that claimed another young life?

What began as peaceful demonstrations seeking accountability for the death of Om Prakash Mehta in Sunsari gradually spiraled into clashes, arson, gunfire, and curfew. By the end of the day, 15-year-old Ganesh Yadav had lost his life, another young man was seriously injured, businesses were damaged, and an entire community was left traumatized.
No matter who we are, where we come from, or what faith we follow, every innocent life lost is Nepal’s collective loss.

The demand for justice is a democratic right. Citizens have every right to question the use of force and seek an impartial investigation whenever lives are lost. Equally, violence, destruction of public and private property, and attacks that place more innocent people in danger only deepen wounds instead of healing them.

What happened in Golbazar should never become a story of one religion against another or one community against another.

Nepal has always been strongest when its people stand together. Our diversity has never been our weakness. For generations, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Kirats, Christians, and people of many other faiths have shared neighborhoods, celebrated each other’s festivals, helped one another during disasters, and lived as friends and neighbors. That shared history must not be forgotten during moments of anger.

When emotions are high, rumors spread faster than facts. Social media posts, unverified videos, and inflammatory messages can quickly turn fear into hatred. This is precisely why people must remain patient and responsible. Every claim should be verified before it is believed or shared. Every leader, activist, journalist, and citizen carries the responsibility of choosing words that calm rather than inflame.

The questions surrounding Thursday’s violence deserve clear and credible answers. How did the confrontation escalate? Under what circumstances was live ammunition used? Could the violence have been prevented? Were all necessary measures taken before force was applied?

These are questions that only an independent, transparent, and trustworthy investigation can answer.

Justice is essential not only for the families who lost their loved ones but also for restoring public confidence in the rule of law. Accountability should never depend on politics, religion, ethnicity, or public pressure. It must be guided by evidence, fairness, and the truth.

As Nepal mourns another young life, this tragedy should unite us in compassion rather than divide us through suspicion. The pain of one family should be felt by every Nepali. The future of our country depends not on who shouts the loudest, but on who listens, understands, and works to prevent such tragedies from happening again.

Golbazar does not need more hatred. It needs healing.
Nepal does not need more division. It needs dialogue.

And above all, every Nepali regardless of religion, ethnicity, language, or background—must remember that before anything else, we are citizens of one nation. Our shared humanity is greater than our differences, and our unity is stronger than those who seek to divide us.

May the truth emerge through an impartial investigation. May justice be delivered without prejudice. And may the lives lost remind us that peace is not weakness ,it is the foundation of a stronger, more united Nepal.
A mother’s tears do not carry a religion. A child’s life cannot be measured by faith. When one Nepali family mourns, the whole nation should mourn with them. Let justice reveal the truth, and let compassion protect the harmony that generations of Nepalese have built together.
