GORKHA – The District Administration Office, Gorkha, has urged trekkers not to undertake the Manaslu Circuit or Larkya Pass trekking routes until further notice following flood damage to bridges in Chumnubri Rural Municipality.
According to an urgent notice issued by the District Administration Office, a flood occurred at Therang Khola in Namrung, Chumnubri Rural Municipality–4, at around 3:30 a.m. on Bhadra 21, 2083 BS. The flood damaged the iron bridge connecting Chumnubri wards 4 and 2, affecting an important crossing along the trekking route.
The notice also states that a suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River on the route from Gumba toward Namrung forest was damaged by the flood. The loss of these crossings has raised safety concerns for trekkers travelling through the area.
In view of the damaged bridges and the resulting risks, the district administration has requested trekkers who are preparing for or already planning trips along the Manaslu and Larkya Pass routes to postpone their journeys until another notice is issued.
The administration has also asked concerned authorities and local residents to remain alert and provide information to the nearest security unit, police post or local authorities if any disaster or unusual situation occurs.
The notice was issued by Netra Prasad Sharma, Assistant Chief District Officer and Acting Chief District Officer of Gorkha, with the administration emphasising safety amid the continuing risks in the flood-affected area.
