Heavy rain caused severe flooding in Balkhu and surrounding areas
Kathmandu: Relentless rain on Tuesday night led to the Balkhu River overflowing, resulting in significant flooding at the Balkhu vegetable market. The floodwaters have caused extensive damage to vegetables, goods, and even overturned vehicles.
Tragically, one person has died due to the flooding. The Bagmati River also overflowed, impacting the Sukumbasi (Squatter settlements) of Thapathali, Teku, and Balkhu.
In Lalitpur, the Bagmati River overflowed, impacting the CPN-UML central office in Chysal and flooding nearby areas. Roads from Sanepa to Shankhamul and locations around the Sanepa Ram Temple were waterlogged. In Imadol, KIST Hospital and surrounding areas were also submerged.
The Kupandole Ward Office, Sankhamul UN park, and several squatter settlements have been affected. The Kalimati vegetable market also experienced damage. Bhaktapur saw flooding at a cotton industry near the Old Jagati Bridge and a furniture industry in Changunarayan Municipality-8.
Heavy rains have raised river levels to dangerous heights, with warnings in place to avoid riverbanks.
