Kathmandu — Weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled across parts of Nepal over the next three days, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) forecasting rain, thunderstorms and lightning in several areas.
According to the latest forecast, Ashwin 21 to 23 (October 7–9) will see generally cloudy conditions in many mountainous and hilly areas. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning, gusty winds and hail is possible in several places, while heavy rainfall is likely at some locations.
The areas at greater risk of heavy rain include hilly parts of Lumbini, Sudurpashchim, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces. Some areas of the Terai, particularly in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim, may also experience thunderstorms, strong winds and hail.
The weather system is being influenced by a western low-pressure system along with monsoon winds. The unsettled conditions could increase the risk of local flooding, landslides and difficult travel conditions, particularly in vulnerable hilly and mountainous areas. DHM’s rainfall monitoring system notes that high rainfall levels can pose risks of landslides on steep slopes and increased local water flow.
The public, especially those travelling through hilly and mountainous areas, is advised to stay updated with official weather information and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.
