International Wellness Day approved by the UN after Nepal’s proposal
Kathmandu – The decision by the United Nations General Assembly to adopt Nepal’s proposal to observe April 15 each year as International Wellness Day has been welcomed by the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN).
It has been stated by HAN that the recognition is expected to provide new momentum to the promotion of wellness tourism in Nepal. Nepal is expected to be promoted more effectively in the global tourism market as an important wellness destination, and qualitative improvement in the country’s tourism sector is also expected to be supported through the decision.
According to the association, an increase in international tourist arrivals is expected to be encouraged by the recognition. The average length of tourist stay is also expected to be extended, while daily tourist spending is believed to be likely to rise, contributing to the national economy.
It has further been stated that Nepal, as the proposing country, can now be advanced more strongly as a key destination in the global wellness tourism market. Through innovative thinking, effective programs, and result-oriented management, Nepal is expected to be positioned more prominently as a center for wellness tourism.
A more favorable environment for the active engagement of both national and international stakeholders in the development and expansion of wellness tourism-related activities has also been believed to have been created through the decision.
HAN, which has long been engaged in the field of wellness tourism, has said that cooperation has also been extended to the Government of Nepal in the preparation of a draft strategic concept paper related to wellness tourism, along with the submission of suggestions.
It has also been announced by HAN that International Wellness Day will be observed every year on April 15 with special programs from the association’s side as well, and continued support will be extended to the development, expansion, and promotion of wellness tourism in Nepal.
