Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) will now use postal services to send official correspondence, reports, invitations, certificates, parcels and other postal items to various offices and individuals.
KMC signed an agreement with the General Post Office, Dillibazar, to organize and manage the delivery of its official correspondence. The agreement was signed by KMC Administration Department Chief Mahesh Kafle and Chief Post Officer of the General Post Office, Dillibazar, Dhal Bahadur G.C., in the presence of Chief Administrative Officer Muktiram Aryal.
Under the agreement, letters issued by KMC departments, divisions, secretariats, units and projects will be collected at a central contact unit and handed over to the postal office with the recipients’ addresses and contact details.
The post office will register and classify the items before sending them or delivering them through delivery agents. Delivery receipts will be provided to KMC, along with monthly bills for the services.
A same-day delivery service will be available for urgent postal items within Kathmandu Metropolitan City, covering items weighing up to two kilograms. Registered mail, Express Mail Service (EMS) and parcel services will also be available as required.
Same-day items within KMC will generally be delivered on the same day, while registered mail and parcels will normally be delivered the following day. For other local levels in Kathmandu District and areas of Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, registered items will generally be delivered within one or two days. Delivery to other districts will follow the regular postal schedule.
The agreement also requires KMC to ensure secure packaging to minimize the risk of items being lost, damaged or torn, while the postal office must handle the items carefully from receipt through delivery. Undelivered items will be returned to KMC’s contact unit.
The agreement will remain valid for one year.
