Kathmandu Police arrest suspects with help of AI Surveillance Cameras

Kathmandu: Nepal Police have arrested 59 suspects after identifying them through an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered surveillance camera system, marking a significant step in the use of advanced technology for crime prevention and law enforcement.

The Kathmandu District Police Range announced the development during a press conference on Friday, stating that the AI-enabled cameras have been used to identify individuals linked to various suspected criminal activities.

According to police officials, the AI surveillance system assists officers by automatically recognizing and tracking individuals captured on camera, enabling faster identification and more effective policing. Authorities believe the technology will strengthen public security and improve the efficiency of criminal investigations.

Police said the use of AI-based surveillance will continue to support efforts to detect suspects, enhance monitoring in public areas, and respond more quickly to potential security threats as part of the broader modernization of law enforcement in the Kathmandu Valley.
