Kathmandu to host Nepal’s 9th National Skateboard Championship
Kathmandu — The Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association has announced the 9th National Skateboard Championship 2083, set to take place on Jestha 30 and 31 at the Yama Buddha Skatepark in Hattigauda, Handigaun, Kathmandu.
The two-day event is expected to attract around 400 participants, including 250 male and 150 female skateboarders from across the country. According to the organizers, the championship aims to promote skateboarding among Nepal’s growing youth population and support the scientific and sustainable development of the sport nationwide.
The competition will feature qualifying rounds on the first day, followed by final events on the second day. Athletes will compete in the Freestyle category, including Best Trick and Best Run events. Organizers will also announce the Skateboarder of the Year during the championship.
The event is expected to be attended by the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, officials from the National Sports Council, representatives of the Nepal Olympic Committee, Kathmandu Metropolitan City officials, and other local representatives.
Cash prizes, medals, and certificates will be awarded to top performers. Senior category winners will receive Rs. 30,000 for first place, Rs. 20,000 for second place, and Rs. 15,000 for third place. In the junior category, first-place winners will receive Rs. 15,000, second-place winners Rs. 10,000, and third-place winners Rs. 5,000.
The Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association stated that it has been actively organizing district-level, provincial, and national competitions since its registration with the National Sports Council in 2013. Previous national championships have been successfully held in Biratnagar, Butwal, Pokhara, and Kathmandu.
Organizers expressed confidence that the championship will further strengthen Nepal’s skateboarding community and encourage greater youth participation in the sport.
