Maharajgunj Bhat-Bhateni rises again after Gen Z protest blaze
Kathmandu – Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket’s Maharajgunj outlet, which was set on fire during the GenZ protests on Bhadra 23 and 24, has resumed operations after nearly six months of repair and reconstruction.
The supermarket building had suffered extensive structural and interior damage in the blaze that broke out amid the protests, disrupting services in one of the capital’s major shopping hubs. According to the company, repair and restoration work was carried out over the past months to restore the facility and ensure it meets operational and safety requirements. Following the completion of reconstruction, the outlet has been reopened to the general public.
Speaking at the reopening, Managing Director Mr. Min Bahadur Gurung said the incident reflected not only loss but also Nepal’s capacity to recover. He stated that Nepalis have the courage, strength, and determination to rebuild, adding that challenges may test the nation but will not define it. Mr. Gurung said the reopening was also a message to the wider public that Nepal moves forward with unity, resilience, and national pride, and pledged continued efforts to do “something meaningful” for the country
