Mithila Thali celebrates second year with cultural expansion
Kathmandu – Chef Santosh Shah’s ‘Mithila Thali’ restaurant is celebrating its second year with the grand opening of a third branch in Gaushala tomorrow!
Chef Shah, a BBC MasterChef finalist, launched his first Mithila Thali restaurant in Janakpur last year, aiming to share the rich flavors of Mithila cuisine. Within two years, he’s opened three branches in the capital, bringing the taste of Janakpur and the Madhesh region to Kathmandu residents.
“The unique dishes of Janakpur have been a hit with Kathmandu,” Chef Shah shared. Building on the success of his Jhamsikhel branch, he’s expanding to Gaushala and Gairidhara. The Gaushala outlet will cater specifically to vegetarians, offering a delicious option for pilgrims visiting Pashupatinath Temple.
While Gaushala offers a vegetarian menu, the Jhamsikhel and Gairidhara branches will have a wider selection. He even has plans to open a Mithila Thali restaurant in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, within a year!
Looking even further ahead, Chef Shah dreams of opening a branch in Doha, Qatar, and expanding his restaurants to other major Nepali cities soon.
