Nepal celebrates 213th Bhanu Jayanti Nationwide
Kathmandu: Nepal is celebrating the 213th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya on Monday with literary, cultural and commemorative programmes across the country and among Nepali-speaking communities abroad.
In Kathmandu, literary organisations, schools and universities have organised special programmes to remember Bhanubhakta and his contribution to Nepali language and literature. Tributes, processions and literary activities are being held as part of the celebrations.
Special celebrations are also taking place at Chundiramgha in Tanahun, the birthplace of Bhanubhakta. Writers, literary figures and language enthusiasts from different parts of Nepal have gathered there, while a morning procession and literary programmes form part of the wider Bhanu Jayanti events. Gandaki Province has also declared a public holiday on Monday to mark the occasion.
President Ram Chandra Paudel extended wishes to Nepali language lovers at home and abroad, highlighting the importance of Bhanubhakta’s literary legacy. Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal also said the poet played an important role in emotionally connecting Nepalis around the world through the Nepali language.
Born in Chundiramgha, Tanahun, in 1871 BS, Bhanubhakta is widely remembered for translating the Sanskrit Ramayana into Nepali, helping make the epic accessible to ordinary Nepali readers. His contribution remains an important part of the development of Nepali language and literature.
Bhanu Jayanti continues to honour his literary contribution and lasting role in strengthening Nepali language, literature and cultural identity.
