Kathmandu — The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has officially bid farewell to the Nepal national men’s cricket team ahead of its crucial ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 series in Oman.
The farewell programme was held on Sunday, with CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand, Secretary Paras Khadka and other officials wishing the team success. The squad will compete against Oman and Canada in the final League 2 series.
Nepal is scheduled to play Canada on October 11 and 17, and Oman on October 13 and 19. The matches will be played in Oman as part of the team’s final League 2 fixtures.
The series is particularly important for Nepal as it currently sits seventh among eight teams with 24 points. A strong performance could improve Nepal’s position and strengthen its chances of avoiding the qualification play-off while continuing its path toward the 2027 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
Captain Sandeep Lamichhane has said that retaining Nepal’s ODI status and pushing the team toward World Cup qualification are the main objectives. The 15-member squad includes Aasif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, Rohit Paudel, Gulshan Jha, Karan KC and other experienced and emerging players.
With Nepal’s League 2 campaign reaching its decisive stage, the Oman tour will be a crucial test for the national team and its World Cup aspirations
