Nepal election code of conduct takes effect ahead of March 5 polls
KATHMANDU, — Nepal’s Election Code of Conduct–2082 for the March 5 elections to the House of Representatives got effective from Sunday midnight, the Election Commission announced.
Kul Bahadur GC, assistant spokesperson for the commission, said the decision was made at a meeting held earlier in the day.
The Election Commission, the constitutional body responsible for conducting and overseeing elections, said it enforced the code under the authority of Section 22 of the Election Commission Act–2073. The code is aimed at ensuring a free, fair, impartial and transparent election process, as well as maintaining a fear-free environment and promoting frugality during the campaign period.
GC said the commission will brief members of the Council of Ministers and senior government officials on the enforcement of the code later Sunday.
