Nepal Extends Terms of Six Ambassadors until Further Notice

Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has instructed six Nepali ambassadors serving abroad to remain in their respective postings until further notice, despite the completion of their official terms. The decision was taken after delays in appointing their successors.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision was approved during the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. The extension applies to Nepal’s ambassadors to Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Myanmar, Austria, and Egypt, who had been preparing to return to Nepal after completing their tenure.

The ambassadors affected by the decision are Ghanshyam Bhandari (Bangladesh), Tirtha Raj Wagle (Bahrain), Nirmal Raj Kafle (Brazil), Harishchandra Ghimire (Myanmar), Bharat Regmi, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, Austria, and Sushil Lamsal (Egypt).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the ambassadors have been directed to continue carrying out their diplomatic responsibilities until a new government decision is made. The temporary extension is intended to ensure continuity in Nepal’s diplomatic missions while the government completes the process of appointing new ambassadors.
