Nepal goes digital: Traffic Police introduce E-Challan system
Nepal’s traffic police have embraced digital technology with the launch of an e-Challan system. This innovative move aims to streamline traffic management and reduce paperwork.
Starting Sunday, traffic violators will no longer receive traditional paper challans. Instead, they will be issued digital challans directly through the Nagarik App. This digital transformation is coupled with the integration of the Traffic Violation Record System (TVRS) into the app, allowing drivers to present their virtual driving licenses digitally.
The e-Challan system, launched by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, was attended by key government officials, including Ramesh Lekhak, Home Minister and Devendra Dahal, Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. This system enables drivers to pay fines instantly through the Nagarik App.
This digital initiative is a significant step towards modernizing Nepal’s traffic management system and improving public services. The traffic police aim to further enhance traffic management by introducing online payment options, a Traffic Communication App, and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
