Nepal government makes MRP labeling mandatory on all imported goods, Warns of action
Kathmandu – The government of Nepal has directed that all imported goods sold or distributed in the domestic market must carry a clearly stated Maximum Retail Price (MRP), making it mandatory for importers to comply within a specified timeframe.
The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection issued a public notice giving importers 15 days to ensure that both newly imported and existing stock of goods are labeled with MRP. The department has warned that failure to comply within the deadline will result in legal action.
The decision was made following discussions with representatives of the Nepal Overseas Export Import Association, according to the department.
Department spokesperson Narahari Tiwari stated that under the new provision, importers must not only label products with MRP but also issue mandatory bills during sales transactions.
The department further announced that market monitoring activities will be intensified after the 15-day deadline to ensure strict enforcement of the new rule.
