Nepal Launches ‘MOFA Mitra’ App to Simplify Consular Services for Citizens Abroad
Kathmandu-The Government of Nepal has launched the “MOFA Mitra” app with the aim of making consular services for Nepali citizens living abroad more accessible, simple, and technology-friendly. The app was officially inaugurated today at a program organized by the Department of Consular Services by Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal.
Through the “MOFA Mitra” app, Nepalis living overseas and their family members can now submit online applications, lodge complaints, and easily communicate and coordinate with Nepali diplomatic missions from wherever they are.Speaking at the event, Minister Khanal said that the lack of accurate data on Nepalis abroad has created challenges in rescue and assistance efforts. He informed that the government has started collecting data based on information received from various government agencies, destination countries, and individuals themselves.
He stated that the app was developed to ensure that Nepalis living abroad feel that the government is close to them during difficult situations.Minister Khanal also shared that the “Legal Nepal Consular Gov NP” online system has been established and brought into operation. According to him, the system has already been expanded to all provinces, district administration offices, Nepali diplomatic missions abroad, and nearly 500 local municipalities.He added that the government aims to extend the service to all 753 local levels by the end of the current fiscal year.
