Nepal Marks 28th National Earthquake Safety Day with Focus on Preparedness
The 28th National Earthquake Safety Day is being observed across Nepal today with the goal of raising public awareness about earthquake risks and strengthening preparedness.
The day has been marked every year since 2055 BS, in remembrance of the devastating earthquake of 2 Magh 1990 BS (January 16, 1934 AD). Through awareness programs and preparedness campaigns, the observance encourages people to adopt safety measures that can help reduce the loss of lives and property during future disasters.
Nepal has faced severe destruction from major earthquakes in the past, including the April 25, 2015 (12 Baisakh 2072 BS) earthquake, which caused widespread damage across the country—highlighting the continued importance of earthquake readiness.
