Nepal Premier League Season-2 Positioned as Key Driver for Sports Tourism
Kathmandu – The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) have joined forces to promote Season-2 of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), highlighting the tournament as a flagship platform for advancing both cricket and sports tourism in Nepal. The partnership aims to position NPL-2 not only as a premier sporting event but also as a showcase of Nepal’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and tourism potential.
Under the collaboration, NTB will actively support the branding and international outreach of NPL-2, which has quickly emerged as Nepal’s most credible and widely recognized franchise cricket league. With rising global interest, the tournament is expected to attract international players, commentators, and cricket fans to Nepal, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a prominent destination for sports tourism.
NTB officials emphasized that cricket has long been one of Nepal’s most impactful sports, capable of hosting large-scale international events. The growing popularity and professionalization of NPL-2, they noted, reinforces Nepal’s aspiration to elevate cricket as a central pillar of the nation’s sports tourism strategy.
A major boost to the league’s global visibility is its official broadcast partnership with Star Sports, which will televise NPL-2 internationally. NTB believes this exposure will significantly enhance Nepal’s destination branding, bringing the country’s landscapes, culture, and sporting infrastructure to millions of viewers worldwide.
NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi said that the surge in sports activities, particularly through NPL-2, has opened new horizons for sports tourism in Nepal. “NPL-2 is a major opportunity to position Nepal on the global stage,” Joshi said. “This league not only highlights Nepal’s cricketing potential but also showcases the nation’s geographic diversity and natural beauty to international audiences.”
Cricket Association of Nepal General Secretary expressed enthusiasm over the collaboration, highlighting its significance in strengthening the connection between sports and tourism. “We are excited to join hands with the Nepal Tourism Board to boost both cricket and tourism,” he said. “The rise of cricket in Nepal over recent years has significantly contributed to promoting the country globally, and NPL-2 will further elevate that visibility.”
With international players, commentators, and high-quality broadcasting, NPL-2 is expected to demonstrate Nepal’s capacity to host world-class sporting events. NTB views the league as a model for how franchise tournaments can expand tourism offerings, diversify visitor experiences, and establish Nepal as a vibrant sporting destination.
As NPL-2 takes the global stage, Nepal aims to showcase not only its cricketing talent but also its breathtaking landscapes, adventure opportunities, and rich cultural heritage. The tournament represents a significant milestone in positioning the country as a rising hub for sports tourism in South Asia.
