These visitor trends offer a positive sign for Nepal’s tourism sector, reflecting continued international interest in the country despite the challenges. The sustained flow of tourists brings hope for tourism recovery and renewed confidence in Nepal as a travel destination.
Nepal welcomed 88,248 international visitors in September 2026, marking a 12.1% increase compared with 78,711 arrivals recorded during the same month last year, according to the latest data from the Department of Immigration compiled by the Nepal Tourism Board.
India remained the largest source of international visitors, with 17,425 arrivals, accounting for 19.75% of the total. Tourist arrivals from China also saw a strong increase, reaching 11,212, up 114.1% from September 2025.
Other major South Asian markets also showed positive growth. Arrivals from Sri Lanka increased by 54%, while visitors from Pakistan rose by 61.9%. Bhutan recorded a 33.4% increase.
Nepal also saw notable growth from several other Asian markets. Cambodia recorded a 219.4% increase, followed by Myanmar at 52.8%, Indonesia at 49%, and Japan at 45.4%.
Tourist arrivals from the Middle East increased by 11.9% overall, with particularly strong growth from the UAE, which recorded a 92% rise. Oman also saw arrivals increase by 72.7%.
The Americas recorded mixed results, but Brazil and Mexico posted strong growth of 48.6% and 47%, respectively. Africa also recorded a 23.3% increase, with Morocco registering a 65.3% rise.
Overall, the September figures show continued positive momentum in Nepal’s international tourism sector, with 88,248 visitors arriving from markets across Asia, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania.
