Nepal to face Bangladesh in SAFF Women’s Championship Semi-Final
Kathmandu-Nepal will take on Bangladesh in the semi-final of the SAFF Women’s Championship after the final Group B match concluded at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India.
The semi-final lineup was confirmed after hosts India defeated Bangladesh 3-0 on Sunday. As a result, Nepal, the winners of Group A, will face Group B runners-up Bangladesh, while Group B winners India will meet Group A runners-up Bhutan in the other semi-final.
Nepal and Bhutan had already secured their places in the last four from Group A, finishing as group winners and runners-up respectively. From Group B, India advanced as group winners, with Bangladesh qualifying as runners-up.The semi-final matches are scheduled to be played on Wednesday, while the final of the eighth edition of the SAFF Women’s Championship will take place on June 6.
India remain the most successful team in the tournament’s history with five titles, while Bangladesh are the defending champions, having won the last two editions. Notably, Bangladesh defeated Nepal in both the 2022 and 2024 finals held in Kathmandu, denying the hosts a maiden championship crown on both occasions.Despite reaching the final six times, Nepal are still searching for their first-ever SAFF Women’s Championship title. The upcoming semi-final against Bangladesh presents another opportunity for the Nepali side to move one step closer to ending that long wait.
