Haikou, China – Nepal recorded a significant promotional success at the China International Travel Market (CITM) 2025, held from December 19 to 21 at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center in Haikou, by winning the prestigious “Best Booth Award” and generating strong interest among Chinese travel trade and consumers.
Strong Presence Led by Nepal Tourism Board
Nepal’s participation at CITM 2025 was led by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with Nepal Airlines and seven Nepali travel trade companies. The delegation actively promoted Nepal as a premier neighboring destination offering “once-in-a-lifetime experiences,” enhancing the country’s visibility in one of its most important outbound tourism markets.
CITM 2025 provided a global platform for destination marketing organizations, travel companies, airlines, hotels, and tourism businesses from China and around the world to promote, network, and explore new partnerships.
Nepal Pavilion Wins “Best Booth Award”
Nepal’s pavilion stood out for its vibrant design and cultural presentation, earning the “Best Booth Award” from the event organizers. Branded under the theme “Nepal – Lifetime Experiences,” the pavilion featured striking visuals of the Himalayas, a Buddhist stupa façade, the Living Goddess Kumari, and highlights of adventure, culture, and nature-based tourism.
Traditional cultural performances at the pavilion attracted large crowds and were highly appreciated by visitors and exhibitors. Many attendees inquired about travel activities, entry requirements, accessibility, and tourism experiences in Nepal, reflecting growing curiosity and demand.
Active B2B Engagement and Trade Networking
Members of Nepal’s travel trade sector actively participated in B2B sessions organized during the fair, holding meetings with Chinese buyers and international partners. These interactions focused on outbound travel opportunities, tour packages, and long-term collaboration.
Private sector participants expressed optimism regarding the quality of meetings and the potential outcomes generated through the fair.
“Explore Nepal” Evening Strengthens Local Promotion
On December 19, a special “Explore Nepal” promotional evening was organized near the exhibition venue by the Office of the Consulate General of Nepal in Guangzhou. The event was attended by government officials and travel trade representatives from Hainan Province, as well as members of the Nepali delegation participating in CITM.
Ms. Lin Qian, Director General of the Haikou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, attended the program as the chief guest.
Consul General of Nepal to Guangzhou, Mr. Bharat Khanal, welcomed the guests and highlighted Nepal’s tourism strengths, emphasizing the long-standing friendly relations between Nepal and China.
Destination Presentation Highlights Nepal’s Diverse Offerings
Senior Manager of the Nepal Tourism Board, Ms. Archana KC Rana, delivered a destination presentation focusing on Nepal’s cultural heritage, natural landscapes, adventure tourism, and wellness experiences. She underlined China’s importance as a high-value tourism market for Nepal.
The formal program concluded with B2B and networking sessions, fostering new partnerships and cooperation between Nepali and Chinese tourism stakeholders.
CITM’s Growing Importance for Nepal
CITM is one of China’s largest and most influential travel trade fairs and has been organized annually since 2004. The 2025 edition marked the first time the event was held in Haikou, the scenic coastal capital of Hainan Province.
Nepal’s successful participation and recognition at CITM 2025 is expected to further strengthen tourism ties with China and support efforts to increase Chinese visitor arrivals in the coming years.
