Kathmandu – The National Forum of Photo Journalists (NFPJ) Nepal has contributed Rs 77,777 to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support the rescue and relief of people affected by disasters.
A delegation led by NFPJ Nepal Central President Pradeep Raj Onta handed over the bank deposit voucher for the contribution to Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina on Friday. Central officials and members of the organisation were also present during the handover program.
According to NFPJ Nepal, photojournalists collected the money by contributing from their personal meal expenses as part of their effort to fulfil their social responsibility during a difficult period.
President Onta said that although the contribution was modest, it was made to express sympathy and solidarity with disaster-affected citizens and to spread a positive message throughout society.
NFPJ Nepal said photojournalism is not limited to communicating news and information. The organisation added that photojournalists also play an important role in rescue and relief efforts and in delivering messages connected to humanity during disasters.
Senior Vice President Sagar Shrestha said photojournalists who have witnessed, experienced and documented disasters while working in the field felt a responsibility to support society during times of hardship.
Receiving the contribution, Minister Dr Timilsina said the unity, compassion and social responsibility demonstrated by photojournalists would create a positive impact on society.
He praised NFPJ Nepal’s officials and photojournalists for coming forward institutionally to provide assistance during the disaster and expressed confidence that the initiative would encourage a positive message across the country.
