Over 60 tall Ships arrive in Boston for Sail Boston 2026
Boston: More than 60 tall ships and military vessels from around the world have arrived in Boston Harbor for Sail Boston 2026, transforming the city’s waterfront into a major international maritime showcase.
The event began with the Parade of Sail on Saturday, July 11, when the historic USS Constitution, widely known as “Old Ironsides,” led the international fleet through Boston Harbor. Large crowds gathered along the waterfront to watch the ships enter the harbor and proceed toward their assigned docking locations.
Ships representing more than 20 countries are participating in the gathering, making it one of Boston’s largest tall ship events in decades. The event is also part of the Sail250 celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Although the Parade of Sail has already taken place, Sail Boston 2026 itself is still underway and will continue through Thursday, July 16. Visitors can board many of the participating vessels free of charge during scheduled public visiting hours.
The ships are docked at several locations across Boston’s waterfront, including Boston Fish Pier, Commonwealth Pier, Fan Pier, Rowes Wharf and Charlestown Navy Yard. The event gives visitors a rare opportunity to explore historic sailing ships and meet international crews and cadets.
Major vessels taking part include Peru’s BAP Unión, Argentina’s ARA Libertad, Chile’s Esmeralda and Poland’s Dar Młodzieży, along with several naval and training ships from other countries.
Public ship tours, waterfront activities and celebrations will continue until the vessels depart Boston on July 16. A fireworks display is also scheduled as part of the remaining festival programme.
Sail Boston 2026 has brought maritime history, international culture and global naval traditions together in Boston Harbor during America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
