Kathmandu – The sacred month of Gunla has begun in the Kathmandu Valley on Thursday, bringing devotees into the streets and ancient courtyards for early-morning religious processions and traditional musical performances.
Observed mainly by the Newar Buddhist community, Gunla is marked by visits to Buddhist shrines, devotional rituals and the playing of traditional instruments. The month-long festival reflects the Valley’s rich Buddhist heritage and living cultural traditions.
From dawn processions to the rhythmic sounds of traditional music, the festival transforms Kathmandu’s historic neighborhoods into vibrant spaces of faith and culture.
