Press Meet announces 21st Handicraft Trade Fair and 19th Handicraft Competition
A press meet was held today to announce the upcoming 21st Handicraft Trade Fair and 19th Handicraft Competition organized by the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal. The event will take place from December 5th to 9th, 2024, at Hotel Hyatt Ground, Boudha, Kathmandu.
The fair aims to promote Nepali handicrafts in national and international markets, encourage entrepreneurs to create new exportable products, and provide a platform for the exchange of skills, designs, and knowledge between local and international buyers and sellers.
The fair will feature around 150 stalls showcasing various handicraft products, including metal crafts, gold and silver items, cotton and wool products, pashmina, leather goods, natural fiber, and bamboo products. International participants from India, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh will be present, alongside local exhibitors from different regions of Nepal.
One of the highlights of the event is the 19th Handicraft Competition, featuring live demonstrations in traditional “Buttanali” and contemporary carpet weaving categories. Winners will receive cash prizes: NPR 50,000 for first place, NPR 30,000 for second place, and NPR 20,000 for third place, along with certificates and medals. Additionally, the fair will honor senior artists, outstanding entrepreneurs, exporters, cargo companies, and artists for their contributions to the handicraft industry.
The handicraft sector is a significant export-oriented industry for Nepal, contributing NPR 12 billion annually in exports and an additional NPR 24 billion in the domestic market. Approximately 1.1 million people are directly or indirectly involved in this industry. The sector plays a vital role in reducing the trade deficit and promoting self-employment for Nepali youth.
