Proton Expands EV Ambitions in Nepal Following Strong Response to e.MAS 7
Kathmandu – Following the successful launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 160kW in Nepal, Jagdamba Motors, the official distributor of Proton vehicles in the country, is accelerating plans to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio. According to the company, the overwhelmingly positive response from Nepali consumers within a short period of the model’s arrival has encouraged Proton to fast-track its EV expansion strategy in the Nepalese market.
Proton’s future direction is further reinforced by its remarkable success in Malaysia. Between January and April 2026, Proton recorded a 329% increase in EV sales, delivering more than 11,617 units to customers within just four months. To meet this growing demand, the company has announced an investment of RM 37 million to expand its EV manufacturing facility in Tanjung Malim. The expansion is expected to more than double annual production capacity, reaching 42,000 units.
A representative from Jagdamba Motors stated, “The response to the Proton e.MAS 7 in Nepal has been extremely encouraging. It clearly indicates that Nepali consumers are embracing electric mobility and are actively seeking high-quality EV options. We are excited about the plans ahead.”
Nepali customers are currently experiencing the Proton e.MAS 7 160kW, a premium electric SUV powered by a 160kW electric motor. The vehicle offers a driving range of up to 475 kilometers on a full charge under NEDC standards. Key features include a 360-degree surround-view camera, advanced headrest speaker system, cutting-edge driving technologies, a spacious and modern interior, and comprehensive safety and connectivity features.
Customers purchasing the e.MAS 7 currently benefit from a one-year free insurance package, one-year road tax exemption, a complimentary 7kW home charger, an eight-year warranty, and attractive cash discounts.
Building on this momentum, Jagdamba Motors is preparing to introduce the Proton e.MAS 5 to the Nepalese market in the near future. Recognized as Malaysia’s best-selling EV in 2026, the e.MAS 5 is designed to suit urban lifestyles and the mobility needs of a new generation of drivers. The model is expected to make Proton’s advanced EV technology accessible to an even broader segment of Nepali consumers.
In addition to Proton, Jagdamba Motors is the authorized distributor of TVS two-wheelers, Chery Wanda commercial electric vehicles, and JMEV electric vehicles in Nepal. By introducing a range of international EV and mobility brands, the company continues to strengthen its position as one of Nepal’s leading players in the rapidly growing electric mobility sector.
