Kathmandu – More than 100 women participated in the Saree Run 2026 in Kathmandu on Sunday, bringing together Nepal’s traditional Teej celebrations with fitness, sports and women’s empowerment.
Organized by Centauro Run Club in collaboration with 350 Fahrenheit Bakers , the 3-kilometre run was held on the occasion of the Teej festival and marked the first event of its kind in Nepal.
Before the run began, participants took part in group stretching and warm-up exercises, preparing themselves for the race while creating an energetic atmosphere among the runners.
Wearing colorful traditional sarees paired with running shoes, women from different backgrounds joined the run, turning the sporting event into a celebration of culture, health and togetherness.
The event promoted three key messages—empowerment, sisterhood and strength—while encouraging women to embrace physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
The combination of traditional attire and modern sports reflected a changing approach to festival celebrations, particularly among younger generations. The run offered participants an opportunity to celebrate Teej not only through traditional festivities but also through movement, fitness and community participation.
Following the run, participants were recognized with medals, adding a celebratory conclusion to the event.
With its message, “Same spirit. New route. Teej vibes. Running shoes,” the Saree Run showcased how Nepal’s cultural traditions can be connected with contemporary sports and wellness activities.
Organizers said the event aims to encourage greater participation of women in sports while creating new ways to celebrate Nepal’s cultural festivals.
