Kathmandu – The second batch of emergency relief supplies provided by the Chinese government arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening to support Nepal’s ongoing disaster response efforts.
The supplies were transported aboard a Y-20 military transport aircraft operated by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force. The aircraft landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at around 5:30 p.m.
Five DNA identification experts also arrived on the same flight as part of the third team of Chinese specialists deployed to Nepal. They are expected to assist Nepali authorities in identifying people who were killed or remain missing following the disaster.
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming and Nepal’s Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun attended the handover ceremony at the airport and welcomed the expert team.
According to Chinese officials, the relief package was prepared based on Nepal’s immediate requirements in disaster-affected areas. It includes drones, DNA-testing equipment and reagents, water-purification systems, lighting devices and other essential supplies.
The DNA identification specialists are expected to coordinate with Nepali authorities before travelling to the affected areas to support ongoing search, identification and recovery operations.
