Photo enthusiasts and visual storytellers across South Asia, rejoice! PhotoKTM, the premier photography festival in Kathmandu, Nepal, has officially announced the dates for its highly anticipated sixth edition. This year’s festival, PhotoKTM6, will be held from November 14th to December 14th, 2025, promising a vibrant celebration of visual arts that emphasizes critical solidarity among artists from the Global South.
Centered around the theme “Critical South-South Solidarities,” this edition invites photographers and visual media practitioners to participate in a dynamic lineup of activities. The festival’s program will include exhibitions, workshops and symposia, a residency, an incubator program for practitioners from across South Asia, a local arts education program for young people in the city, and various collaborative pop-up events among other core and collateral programming.
PhotoKTM is more than just a photography showcase; it is a platform dedicated to exploring the power of visual communication. The festival seeks to engage both the public and history, supporting artistic, political, and ideological expressions that challenge the status quo. By promoting dialogue and fostering shared agency, PhotoKTM creates a space for describing and discussing the world through a collective lens.
The festival also catalyzes collective imagination, encouraging participants to consider the possibilities of artistic collaboration and exchange. PhotoKTM6 aims to explore questions like: What kind of community and collective imagination might such a coming together make possible? What prospects might this ‘we-feeling’ catalyze, despite or perhaps because of its ephemeral nature?
Organized by photo.circle, a leading platform for photography founded in Kathmandu in 2007, PhotoKTM continues to build on its legacy of creating spaces for artistic exchange and critical discourse.
