Tihar day 1: Honoring crows during Kaag Tihar
Tihar, also known as Deepawali, is one of Nepal’s most cherished festivals, celebrated over five days with vibrant rituals and deep cultural significance.
The first day of Tihar is dedicated to crows, known as Kaag Tihar, where crows are honored for their significant role as messengers of Yamaraj, the god of death. In Hindu mythology, crows are regarded as intermediaries between the living and the spiritual realms, believed to carry messages to Yamaraj. As families offer rice, sweets, and other foods to the crows, they seek to ensure the delivery of positive messages and ward off bad luck.
