TikTok Launches In-App Search Guide in Nepal to Support Sexual Abuse Awareness
Kathmandu – TikTok, a global platform for short-form mobile videos, with a mission to inspire creativity and bring joy, has rolled out a new safety feature in Nepal designed to connect users searching for terms related to sexual abuse with credible support resources and information. The move is part of the platform’s broader effort to make digital spaces safer and more supportive for vulnerable users.
The new search guide will appear when users in Nepal look up terms like “sexual assault,” “abuse hotline,” or “MeToo.” Instead of standard search results, a dedicated banner will appear directing users to TikTok’s Sexual Abuse Support page within the app’s Safety Center. The page contains educational content, reporting guidelines, and links to local and international helplines.
“User safety is our top priority,” said Waskito Jati, Outreach and Partnership Manager for TikTok’s Trust and Safety division. “Many people turn to online platforms during moments of distress. By offering immediate access to reliable resources, we hope to guide users toward professional help and reinforce our zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse.”
The support page provides detailed information on different forms of abuse, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sexual harassment, and non-consensual sexual acts. Users are advised on how to report inappropriate content and are reminded that reports made through the platform are treated with strict confidentiality.
In addition to in-app reporting, TikTok’s guide offers external reporting options and a searchable directory of local organizations and global support services that specialize in trauma care, legal help, and survivor advocacy. The platform also highlights hashtags and user-created content that promote healing, community, and empowerment.
The initiative comes as part of TikTok’s ongoing digital safety program, which includes regular enforcement of community guidelines, partnerships with mental health and advocacy organizations, and platform-wide interventions to support vulnerable communities.
